Deck Restoration and Staining Process
Preparation is key to the final results. All wood needs to be cleaned well before staining, whether it's a brand new deck, or an older deck that's been out in the weather and needs to be re-stained. Brand new lumber needs to be cleaned to remove "Mill Glaze". Mill Glaze is a crushing of the grain that takes place during the milling process.
On an older deck, dirt, graying from the sun, mildew and old stains all need to be removed prior to staining. We do not use our Pressure Washer during the cleaning or washing process, since it can potentially damage the wood. We will utilize the water hose, cleaning products, and some “elbow grease”.
We always check the moisture level of any decks or fences prior to staining or painting. If the moisture level is above 15%, we will NOT stain your deck or fence until the moisture level is met. This also VOIDS the Manufacturer’s Warranty.
We do not use CHEAP products during the Restoration or Staining process. We use Benjamin Moore products exclusively due to the High Quality of Resins, Polymers, and for higher solids to water ratio.
Color Box Painting LLC’s approaches on restoration and staining is a 5 part process.
Once we have Restored and Stained your deck, we recommend you keep up with Annual or Bi-Annual Maintenance. Decks take a beating from traffic, patio furniture, and the Pacific NW Weather.
If brushing and rolling is not your cup of tea, we do offer an Annual Maintenance Contract. Let us take care of your deck.
